DURHAM, NC -- The University of North Carolina (UNC) Dentistry Residency program and the Durham VA have collaborated for some time now. As a result, Veterans are provided the “excellent” care they have earned and Residents are provided a first-class applied education. A recent accreditation site visit conducted for the Durham VAMC Dental Service confirmed what many have come to know. The partnership between the UNC Dental Residency Program and the Durham VA is a shining example of a mutually beneficial affiliation.

Dr. Stan Brysh from Meritor Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin served as Site Consultant.  He was particularly impressed with the clinical rotation experience afforded UNC residents, which is atypical for other dental, general practice, residencies.  Among those unique experiences afforded to UNC Dental Residents rotating at the Durham VA, include dental implants, advanced oral surgical procedures, and complex fixed and removable prosthodontics.

As part of the General Practice Resident medical rotation, Dr. Rob Harrison, Chief Resident at the Durham VAMC Department of Internal Medicine, gave an excellent overview for surveyors. Dr. Hamid Afshari, Dr. Paul Kundrick, Dr. James White, Dr. Jonathan Smith and Dr. Tom Francis are key contributors to the success of this rotation experience at the Durham VA.
