WELCOME HOME VETERANS...
...and welcome to the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s website dedicated specifically to information and resources for veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) residing in and around Durham, North Carolina.  Durham’s OEF/OIF Care Team is honored to assist veterans with transitioning to civilian life and linking veterans to healthcare and community resources.

YOU’VE GOT QUESTIONS...

...and you’ve probably come to this website because you’re looking for answers or information.  We know it can be difficult to navigate the paperwork and the forms and finding out who to talk to about this or that.  That’s where this website comes in handy.  Below is a list of questions and statements that are of interest to OEF/OIF veterans.  Each question links to information and resources as well as a contact person at DVAMC who can assist you further.

Announcing the DVAMC OEF/OIF Running Club

The Durham VAMC is proud to offer OEF/OIF Running Club.  This pilot program is offered by clinicians who recognized the tremendous physical and emotional benefits of offering structured physical activity in a safe, supportive setting to your overall health.

Studies have shown that exercise decreases stress, depression, mental fatigue, tension, anxiety and boredom.  In return, it increases self esteem, confidence, energy level and adds years of healthy living to your life.  The Durham VA’s OEF/OIF Running Club is designed to support the fact that exercise is an essential step toward improving your overall quality of life.

We must emphasize that this group is not facilitated by “professionals in the field of sports medicine”.  This group is psycho- educational in nature and we will not be providing guidance or instruction specific to body mechanics or exercise.  Each individual is encouraged to participate in accordance to their level of fitness and ability.  It is expected that each participant has either sought approval from their Primary Care Physician OR is confident in their own ability to self assess their physical fitness.  We encourage you to participate at a level where you feel most comfortable.

In addition, this group is taking place outside of a traditional clinical setting.  It is our commitment to treat these sessions with the same clinical respect that a traditional setting would offer.   It is our expectation that participants help facilitate an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect.   We insist on a non-violent, non threatening atmosphere.

We will be meeting RAIN OR SHINE at The Duke Center for Wellness track on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:00 a.m. until 7:15 a.m. For more information, please contact Josh Dadolf, LICSW at 919-286-0411 ext. 6172.
